The 5th International Symposium on Empirical Software Engineering
Rio de Janeiro, BRAZIL, September 21-22, 2005

 

 

Continuing the success of previous ISESE conferences, the 5th International Symposium on Empirical Software Engineering will take place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil during September 21-22, 2006. ISESE has continuously attracted participants from industry, research, and academia alike, confirming that the conference provides topics that are up-to-date, significant, and interesting.

Theme & Scope

The objective of the International Symposium on Empirical Software Engineering (ISESE) is to provide a forum where researchers and practitioners can report and discuss recent research results in the area of empirical software engineering.

The symposium encourages the exchange of ideas that help understand, from an empirical viewpoint, the strengths and weaknesses of software engineering technologies. The symposium focuses on the processes, design and structure of empirical studies, and the results of specific studies. These studies may vary from controlled experiments to field studies and from quantitative to qualitative studies.

Topics

The relevant topics include, but are not restricted to, the following:

·        Empirical studies of software processes and products

·        Evaluation and comparison of techniques and models

·        Reports on the benefits derived from using certain technologies

·        Development of predictive models

·        Experiences with research methods: measurement theory, experimental design, qualitative modelling, analysis approaches, grounded theory, protocol studies, families of experiments

·        Development, derivation and/or comparison of software development organizational models

·        Industrial experience in process improvement

·        Quality measurement

·        Process modelling and its application in industry

·        Experience management

·        Systematic reviews and evidence-based software engineering

·        Infrastructures for conducting empirical/experimental studies

 

Research Paper Submissions

FULL PAPERS

 

All papers should be submitted through the web-based submission system. The link will be published at the conference’s home page (http://www.isese.org).

 

Papers describing unpublished, original work are solicited on any software engineering topic, as long as there is a strong empirical/experimental component to the work being presented. Such contribution can take the form of a case/field study, controlled experiment, survey, meta-analysis of previous studies, enhancement of empirical/experimental methods or critical review of previous empirical work (e.g. from a methodological standpoint).

 

Papers are limited to 10 pages, should be written in English, and be formatted according to the ACM authoring guidelines (http://www.acm.org/sigs/pubs/proceed/template.html).

 

Authors are requested to upload their paper (PDF format) via the web-based system. Papers that either exceed 10 pages, are outside the scope of the conference, or do not follow the formatting guidelines will be rejected without review.

 

Selected high-quality papers will be invited to submit an expanded version for a special issue or section of the Journal of Empirical Software Engineering (http://www.sce.carleton.ca/squall/emse).

 

Submission deadline: March 1, 2006

Acceptance decisions by: May 5, 2006

Camera-ready copy due: July 15, 2006

SHORT PAPERS and POSTERS

 

All short papers and poster proposals should be submitted through the web-based submission system. The link will be published at the conference’s home page (http://www.isese.org). Short papers should not exceed 3 pages and poster proposals should not exceed 1 page. Both short papers and poster proposals should be formatted according to the ACM authoring guidelines (http://www.acm.org/sigs/pubs/proceed/template.html). Short papers will be reviewed and those accepted published in separate proceedings. Posters will be handled in direct discussion with Emilia Mendes.

 

Submission deadline: May 20, 2006

Acceptance decisions by: July 15, 2006

Camera-ready copy due: July 31, 2006
